Greenhills Playgroup Inc

Learning through play with others.

Playgroup is for all children aged 0-5yrs

What is the difference between Mother's Groups and Playgroups?
As first time mums, your local Maternal Child Health Centre (MCHC) will gather up a group of mums in the local area and start what is called a new "Mothers Group."  After 6 or so weeks there, you will all need to move onto another venue (in most cases each others homes.) As soon as you leave the MCHC you are pretty much a "Playgroup!" Sad I know.  What you do at your Mothers Group sessions are exactly what you will do as a part of a "Playgroup."  A Playgroup provides your group with a venue, equipment, supplies, information and hopefully the right environment for you all to enjoy your times together. What you do and don't do during your sessions is entirely up to you!
**Groups are subject to other mothers joining throughout the year, however, ANY enquiries that come to your group will only have children of similar age as your own.  This is most often very good, especially for small groups.  Numbers can change drastically at the time when mums return to work or drop off for a couple of week's in the colder months with illness.

Quick Questions
Have you just finished your last session at your Maternal Child Health Centre?
Do you currently meet in each others home?
Do you need more open space, toys and activities for under 5's and would like to have an outdoor playground at your disposal?

If you answered "yes" to ANY of these questions then Greenhills Playgroup can help!
By being a part of the Greenhills Playgroup there's no more need to worry about-
Where do we go after our MCHC sessions?
We've been meeting at our houses but our houses are not big enough for our group and our kids anymore.
What are we going to entertain the kids/babies with?
Its a lovely day to go outside but where can we go?
My child is sick and I'm supposed to be having everyone come to my house today.
My house is a mess, I'm tired and have people coming over for a play date today.
The weather is terrible and we are supposed to be meeting at the park- we'll have to cancel and get together another time next week.

By joining a playgroup it will:
*
RELIEVE the pressure of knowing you don't have a group of mums & their kids coming to your house this week
ENSURE that you meet at a set time for 2hrs every week- rain, hail, sickness or shine
*  STIMULATE your children with a new environment and toys/equipment that is not your own childs
*  You house stays the way it is- no need to do a mad clean before or after your group comes
*  Make sure that people don't overstay their welcome as you sit and watch the clock waiting for them to leave

By hosting playgroup at each other's homes you run a HIGH risk of falling apart.
This WILL happen in time as mum's return to work, stronger friendships form whilst weaker ones feel less and less comfortable attending homes or as weeks can go by that you don't see each other through illness or weather.
